survival skills courses

Instuctor is disputing that I attended a college survival skills class and has given me an F???
College Survival Skills is mandatory at the college I attend. I took this class in my first semester, over a year ago. I never looked up my grade because this was supposed to be a FLUFF class and all that was required for an A in this four day course was perfect attendance. Today when I signed up for Fall semester it was brought to my attention that I recieved a failing grade in the class. I thought this may have been a clerical error and went to meet with the instructor. She had marked me absent on the second day of class. I attended every day of the class and I have fellow students to vouche for my presents in class on this day. The instructor tells me that I should have came to her before and there is nothing she can do to change the grade now…Is this true? Do I have to shell out my hard earned doe for this class AGAIN? Do I stand a chance if I go to the dean?
It sounds like you are out of luck. Even if you try to drag someone up to the Dean, seriously, do you think s/he is going to believe you or your friend about something that happened over a year ago? YOU may be sure you were there, but if you have no concrete proof, then you really can’t dispute what the professor has in her gradebook. Gradebooks have to be kept for X amount of time (depends on the school for how long) and THAT is the record, unless you have something that can show it’s incorrect. If you don’t have something that disputes that other than some “friend” to vouch for you, then you will have to suffer through those 4 days again.
I am a professor and I cannot tell you how many times students have bold-faced LIED to my face. I had one who I said “hi” to on my way in to class tell me he was deathly ill and missed an exam. He forgot he saw me. I am not saying you or your friends would lie; however, because this happens SO MUCH, they are not going to take just the word of you and your friends over a professor and her old gradebook.
It’s only 4 days and you will make more “doe” (hint: it’s dough). Sometimes you just have to take your licks. You really shouldn’t have waited so long.
