Stage 4 Prostate Cancer And Malpractice Lawsuits

A cancer attorney regularly is approached about what are normally known as delayed diagnosis lawsuits.  These claims happen if a doctor does not timely diagnose an individual’s cancer either because the doctor ignores the individual’s symptoms or does not use the relevant screening guidelines.  The main cancers with which failure to screen lawsuits present themselves are: prostate cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, and cervical cancer.  Screening tests exist for these cancers to, often, discover the cancer prior to the individual developing symptoms.

Look at, for example, colon cancer.  There are several tests that can be done to find the presence of cancer in the colon when it is in the early stages, sometimes even prior to the time the cells become cancerous.  The Fecal Blood Occult Test (FBOT) and sigmoidoscopies are regularly applied in conjunction with one another by visually checking the sigmoid section of the colon and checking for the existence of blood in the stool.  The colonoscopy is a test that enables a physician to work with a flexible scope with a camera in the front to visually examine the total length of the colon .  Without a family history of colon cancer or the person exhibits symptoms, physicians normally suggest that screening commence when the patient turns 50.  The idea is an attempt to detect the cancer before it spreads and becomes advanced colon cancer.

A different illustration is prostate cancer.  The two main tests for screening are the physical examination of the gland and the PSA blood test.  A physical examination might show the presence of any abnormalities that might be due to cancer.  The blood test checks the levels of an antigen that rises in men with prostate cancer.  Because other factors may also cause the antigen to register at elevated levels, doctors generally advise that a biopsy be done if the test comes back high confirm or eliminate the possibility of cancer.  This is done so as to find the cancer before it spreads beyond the gland becoming advanced prostate cancer.

The above is intended for generic educational uses only.  It is not intended as, nor should it be taken to be, medical or legal advise.  For any health or medical concerns speak to a physician immediately.  And if you suspect you might have a medical malpractice case contact a lawyer without delay as the law limits the amount of time within which you can pursue a claim.
